Freddy came to the shelter in September 08 along with 27 others. They were rescued from the backyard of a house in Biggera Waters where they had been living in a large aviary type enclosure. The males and females weren't kept separate so of course the females were continually pregnant. All had mites and were undernourished due to a poor diet but with care and lots of love they all thrived and most have now been rehomed.
Freddy had been a solo piggy since arriving at the shelter as attempts to pair him with another male were unsuccessful. He was desexed on 12th November 09 which enabled him to join a group of female piggies where he lived happily until he was adopted.
Mooey was surrendered in June 09 along with Milo, Mischa and Millie. They were a happy little group and resided in a large open run with four or five others. When Kerri and her family came to adopt, they chose Mooey as a companion for Freddy, and although they hadn't resided in the same pen, they got along from the word go. Just to make sure, they spent a week's trial period in a hutch together here at the shelter and were a joy to watch as they got to know one other.
April was surrendered with Ginger and Domino almost a year ago. She wasn't what you'd call a friendly piggy, in fact she was rather aloof and didn't enjoy human contact at all. For the first few months she shared a hutch with the other two girls but eventually the three of them were moved into a large run with five other piggies. Gradually she began to come out of her shell, and by the time her two original companions were adopted she had become a much more relaxed little girl and mixed happily with all the others. April is a striking colour and while lots of visitors commented on her beauty, she wasn't cuddly or friendly enough for anyone to want to take her home. Until today that is, when Adam fell in love with her and decided their new hutch was big enough for three :)
These lucky piggies have gone off to live in Broadbeach Waters with Kerri, Adam, Jayde and Lachlan. I'm sure that if Kerri had her way she'd be back here every weekend to take home some more! |
