ADOPTING
There is always an abundance of guinea pigs in the shelter waiting to be adopted. Because I want only the very best of FOREVER homes for my piggies, there is a screening process in place and an Adoption Contract which must be agreed to before an adoption can proceed. Please click here to view the Contract.
POINTS TO CONSIDER BEFORE ACQUIRING A GUINEA PIG
-
Am I prepared to do all I can do to ensure my guinea pigs are kept safe, happy and healthy?
-
If any of my guinea pigs appear unwell, am I prepared to take them to a vet and pay the cost of a consultation and any ensuing costs eg medications?
-
Do I have a suitable area, away from direct sunlight, wind and rain, in which to place the guinea pigs' hutch should they be living outdoors?
-
If keeping the guinea pigs indoors, is the room I'm keeping them in adequately ventilated and cool during summer?
-
Am I prepared to clean my guinea pigs' hutch/enclosure every two or three days?
-
Am I prepared to take the guinea pigs out of their hutch each day to give them a run on the grass, or in the case of unit living, on the floor?
-
Am I prepared to feed my guinea pigs fresh fruit and vegetables each day, plus a good quality guinea pig mix eg Oxbow Pellets, and a constant supply of non-lucerne hay plus fresh water daily?
-
Do I have time to cuddle my guinea pigs, and to bath and groom them on a regular basis?
-
Will my guinea pigs be treated as part of the family?
-
Do I have someone responsible and reliable who can look after my guinea pigs when I am away from home for any reason?
-
If not, am I prepared to pay a boarding fee to a suitable boarding establishment eg a guinea pig shelter to ensure that my guinea pigs will be well taken care of while I'm away?
-
Do I fully understand the importance of not contributing to the overpopulation of guinea pigs by not allowing my guinea pigs to be used for breeding?
If you can answer "YES" to all the above questions it appears you are ready to make guinea pigs a part of your family.
