DONATIONS:
Gold Coast Guinea Pig Rescue is a non-profit organisation. We receive no government funding and rely on the generosity of the public to keep the organisation running. All donations received go towards the day-to-day running of the shelter. Ongoing costs include food (hay, chaff, fruit and vegetables), veterinary care, medications, fuel costs, vehicle maintenence, stationery, to name but a few. We appreciate every dollar donated as it enables us to continue the work we do in caring for these dear little creatures.
We can also use:
1. Bales of straw and hay (oaten, grassy or barley)
2. Oaten chaff
3. Fresh fruit and vegetables
4. Guinea pig igloos/domes
5. Water bottles
6. Small animal playpens
7. Hutches (any type in good condition)
8. Newspapers
BECOME A FOSTER CARER:
Enrich your life by becoming a foster carer for some of our shelter piggies. Now and then we like to place some of our piggies in a family environment where they will receive one-on-one attention, thus making them more easily handled so more adoptable. Some of the piggies who arrive here haven't received much in the way of cuddles in their previous life and are very timid. A few weeks with a loving carer can have a dramatic change on them - I have seen guinea pigs leave the shelter in a feral state only to arrive back a month or so later as calm and gentle little piggies.
All food and bedding is provided, along with an indoor hutch, so a suitable spot either indoors or on a sheltered porch is required. If you have a secure grassy area for daytime exercise and play, an outdoor enclosure will also be provided. So if you love guinea pigs and would like to help, please contact us and forward your details, including the extent of your experience with guinea pigs, your age (if under 18 there will need to be adult supervision), and the area in which you live.
